Why become a member?

Joining AVCA gives fund managers and other stakeholders an opportunity to harness their collective strength to stimulate and promote the industry.

AVCA provides a platform for the industry to speak with one voice on issues that affect the industry as a whole.

AVCA creates opportunities for members to network between themselves at industry events such as the Annual conference.

AVCA researches and publishes information and insights on private equity and venture capital in Africa.

AVCA members can share their news and updates with other members and stakeholders via the Newsletter and Website.

The Benefits:

AVCA works on behalf of its members to promote greater understanding of a more favorable climate for private equity in Africa.  In addition to public recognition and the development of the asset class, AVCA also offers the following benefits to its members:

Membership Criteria/type of memberships

To become a member of AVCA certain criteria must be met. There are general criteria that apply to all members and different sets of criteria for Full Members and Associate Members.

General Criteria
An applicant must:

  • have an active involvement in private equity or venture capital
  • be of good standing in the private equity or venture capital communities
  • agree to abide by the AVCA Charter and Code of Conduct.

Full Membership

Full Membership is open exclusively to organisational units and persons:
  • who can prove substantial activity in the management of equity or quasi-equity financing
  • whose main objective is long term capital gains to remunerate risks
  • whose main centre of activity and principal investments are located in Africa
  • who can provide active management support to investees.

Associate Membership
Associate Membership is open to persons or companies representing a special interest group that can influence the development of venture capital in Africa. Persons eligible to become Associate Members include, but are not limited to, banks, universities, development finance institutions, consultants, financial advisers and stockbrokers, pension funds, insurance companies, development organisations and associations, private individuals and national associations for venture capitalists.
